The Shadow of What Was Lost

Cover of The Shadow of What Was Lost.

Reviewing a book a year after reading it is a great way to see what passes the test of time. This one โ€ฆ didn’t. I could not recall having read it off the title or even the blurb, and had to go to the Wikipedia summary to remind me of the plot. And the world. And the people. Maybe this is just me losing interest in High Fantasy โ€“ I thought the time travel thing was neat in concept, but nothing in the story made me willing to keep track of it and all the hints of future/past things to connect. Sigh. Also suffering from many seemingly arbitrary limits placed on things and people just to push the plot along. It’s a very solid book, but utterly did not excite me.

This book is part of the 2022 Backlog Incident.
