The Last Watch

Cover of The Last Watch.

I remember really liking this book โ€ฆ and then remembered nearly nothing of the plot. It’s a version of the Watch from Song of Ice and Fire, only at the edge of the universe, with only misfits assigned there and always low on budget. Then Things Happen and People Are Not Just Who They Seem To Be, etc etc. Protagonist is a sparkling aristocrat, exiled for being Too Good etc etc. I’ll probably read the next part, and I think it’s impressive that it managed to convince me so much on the back of such a generic story, and that it took quite a bit of distance to realise it’s maybe not as good as I thought at first!

This book is part of the 2022 Backlog Incident.
