Pretty Tolkienesque, which I liked. And the “adults in strange fantasy lands” was very Dark Tower, only of course better written. Enjoyed it more than Sailing to Sarantium, too.
I do wonder how much time, if any, Guy Gavriel Kay has spent at a loom.
